Shamir – Straight Boy

After finding out through a Youtube comment that the director of the video for Straight Boy, Ryan Carpenter, has been accused of rape, Shamir immediately removed the video and replaced it. The new clip opens with Shamir saying “Fuck sexual abuse. Fuck rapists.”

Shamir does not stand with rapists.

Liza Anne – Paranoia

What better time to listen to a song exploring anxiety than in the midst of the The Big Anxiety Festival? Nashville singer-songwriter, Liza Anne, has been coping with anxiety for much of her life, and through songs like Paranoia, she educates others about her experiences and reminds us that such conditions don’t completely define a person.

Paresthesia – Wild Ones

Wild Ones are a Portland five-piece that about to become your new favourite band. You might initially think that Parasthesia is your typical, forgettable indie band track, completed by soothing female vocals, but with it’s experimental electronic elements and catchy chorus, it’s anything but. Their album Mirror Touch will be released in October through Top Shelf records.

Crawling Back – PLGRMS

It’s been two years in the making, but it’s finally here, Crawling Back by Sydney-based duo PLGRMS.  Broody, poppy and catchy, I’d say that the time investment was worth it. If you missed their tour over the past weekend, don’t forget that they’ll also be at Vanfest in December.

Therapy – Yaeji

Part dreamy pop, part punchy electronica, part chilled out disco, Yaeji’Therapy is hard to pin down. She’s been flying under the radar so far, but expect that to change as this South Korean Discwoman continues to make unique and quality music.

Holy Water – Gundelach

Holy Water is the second release from Norwegian pop star Gunelach this year, ahead of his upcoming EP. Like previous releases, Holy Water is haunting, dark and even a little abstract, but features an intense bass line which a bit more new to him. With the lyrics, Gundelach aims to create a vibe or feeling, rather than tell a story;

“It’s more of a feeling, something abstract. I get the same feeling every time I listen to it though. The same feeling I got when I listened to ‘Boris’ back in 2012.”
